A Message from the President

LHSPLA Coaches,

Once again we have completed a successful year for the LHSPLA. Congratulations to all of our State Champions and their coaches. The State Meet continues to get bigger and better every year. At this year's business meeting it was voted on and decided that we change the State Meet format: Hold the Division I (5A - 4A) State Meet on the normal State Meet date, 1st weekend in March. Hold the Division II (2A - 1A and below) on the last weekend in February. This will not occur this year because of a contractual agreement that St. Amant High School has with its meet sponsors. Therefore we will once again hold the State Meet at St. Amant. The 2001 LHSPLA State Meet will be held on the 1st weekend in March, with both the Division I and II meets being held at the same site. The only difference will be that the Division II Boys/Girls State meet will be held on Friday and the Division I Boys/Girls State Meet will be held on Saturday. The State meet will go to separate dates and sights during the 2001-02 powerlifting season. I will list the rest of the proposals that were voted upon later in this newsletter. The Executive Committee and I would like to encourage you to attend the semi-annual business meeting of the LHSPLA membership at this year's coaching clinic. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 19th, at 7:00 p.m. The location of the meeting will be forthcoming. Remember, any proposed rule changes or amendments to the LHSPLA constitution can be acted upon at this semi-annual business meeting. 2000 LHSPLA Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to our 2000 LHSPLA Scholarship winners: Matt Deroche from Luchter High School and Malaina Herrington from Tioga High School.

Proposals 2000 Business Meeting

Proposal to have Invitational Meets that exceeded 300 total lifters (boys/girls) previous calendar year be held over 2 (two) days following year - Failed

Proposal to limit the numbers of platforms at Invitational meets to 6, with the total number of lifters per platform not to exceed 50 lifters. - Failed

Proposal to hold the Division I and II State Meets on separate weekends. Rotating between member schools in the North/West and the East/South Regions. Will not go into effect until to 2001-02 powerlifting season. - Passed

Proposal to convene a Semi-Annual Business Meeting at the LHSAA Coaching Clinic - Passed

Proposal to unify jack rack heights by determining pin placements by measuring how many inches bar is from the ground - Passed

Proposals to more strictly enforce the rule of not allowing baggy shorts/boxers on lifting platform. - Passed

Proposal to change the attempt priority rule - Failed

Proposal to change Ariticle XIII, Section 5 in the constitution concerning the percentage of entry fees and gate revenues from State Meet that the association receives from 5% to 10%. - Passed

Proposal to form a "Jury" that is made up of the lifter's card, the expeditor sheet and the overhead sheet in case a discrepancy is noted on the lifter's card. - Failed

Proposal that at least one (1) adult (high school graduate) be in place at the platform tables at all Regional and State level competitions. - Passed
